Rachel Barge

Associate, GreenStart

Rachel Barge is a social entrepreneur who is passionate about employing enterprise-based, youth-powered solutions to solve the world's most pressing environmental problems. As an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley, Rachel helped establish a US$2M Green Fund that tripled the amount of capital available for campus sustainability. After graduating with a bachelor's of science degree in Conservation and Resource Studies and a minor in Forestry, Rachel founded Campus InPower, a national consultancy that spread innovative financial mechanisms for campus sustainability. During the first year of the initiative, Rachel raised $16M and personally trained over 2,000 students from over 250 universities. After developing a strong interest in private-sector models of environmental impact, Rachel then became the Director of the Business Council on Climate Change, a network of over one hundred leading Bay Area companies committed to sharing best practices on climate solutions.

Rachel now works for Greenstart, a new startup accelerator for cleantech.  Greenstart provides promising cleantech startups with seed funding, three months of mentoring, valuable connections, and the chance to pitch to leading angel investors and venture capitalists.  Rachel is winner of the David Brower Youth Award, the nation's top prize for young environmental leaders, as well as the Morris K. Udall Fellowship, a federal award recognizing top environmental leaders on college campuses. She is 25 and resides in Berkeley, CA.
