BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico
Last Friday I was in Los Angeles, CA preparing to speak on a Focus the Nation panel. I left the panel discussion feeling inspired by the other panelists and their stories. Many had started projects, art sanctuaries and community gardens against the odds of inexperience. These small steps forward for alternative food systems and green lifestyles left me feeling optimistic, refreshed and also ready to return to Portland.

Walking the Walk All Over the Country As we tie up all the loose ends from our Spring Campaign: Jobs and the Clean Energy Race, we reflect on the two months of work, and some significant changes for Focus the Nation. We are starting to see some themes we can trace through all of our clean energy forums. Throughout the Midwest, states can see the clean energy opportunities right in front of them, but need a kick to make them real. The consensus among these constituents was overwhelmingly the need for more investment to jumpstart the clean energy economy. Michigan State Clean Energy Forum Cross-post from Benton Strong, Consequence 09 In February, as one of 13 Consequence winners, Liz Starke came to Washington to lobby congress for comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation. We were with her when she, along with four other Michigan natives, met with the staff in both Senator Debbie Stabenow’s and Senator Carl Levin’s offices. Now that she is back at Michigan State, Starke is helping lead the fight to educate and gain support at home, knowing that clean energy will be the future and Michigan should play a major role.
